I’m now going to hit on this because it’s clearly a gender difference: girls complain.
Sometimes a lot, sometimes a little, but the fact of the matter is we vent. It happens.
For those of you who haven’t had a gal you’re close to in your life, you’re clearly late to the game – females complain.
Ask my mother and friends. I call them to vent about situations in my life, but not for the sake of complaining – for the sake of talking out my problems and getting a fresh set of ears on the situation. There are just some things in life that you need to talk out before coming to a justifiable solution to the problem at hand. And sometimes that “talking out your problems” additive is known as bitching.
There are a lot of ways to deal with “complaining” or “venting”… ignoring is usually the most typical, and effective, way of dealing. Yet, some men feel the need to help. So I say this to the men of the world:
Talking through problems is the way we figure things out. It’s not necessarily that we need you to listen, it’s more so the fact that you’re a physical being who can provide back-tracked comments such as: “uh huh,” “you’re so right,” and “well how are you going to fix it?”
We’re not looking for advice. We’re looking for a soundboard that lets us talk out our problems. If you’re not willing to do that, then verbalize it so we can call up Susie or Pookie. We’re not mind-readers.
